MHC Board of Commissioners elect new Chair and Vice-Chair

The McAllen Housing Commission (MHC) Board of Commissioners elected a new Chair and Vice- Chair during their annual board meeting held on July 26.

Elva M. Cerda, a McAllen native who has served the board since 2015 previously as Vice-Chair, was elected as the chair following July's annual meeting. Cerda is the Executive Director of the McAllen Heritage Center and has previously served on the Affordable Homes of South Texas, Inc. board of directors where she served as Board President for many years. She is a current board member of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the City of McAllen Development Corporation board of directors. She is also Emeritus Director of the Rio Grande Valley Builder's Association.

Eliseo "Tito" Salinas, also a local to the Rio Grande Valley previously served as a commissioner of the Board of Commissioners since 2015 and is the Vice-Chair. Salinas serves as Operations Manager with Linebarger, Goggin, Blair & Sampson, LLP and serves as a board member for the Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships (VAMOS).

Cerda and Salinas contribute ample experience in affordable housing since they have assisted in the development of various complexes including The Doves Nest with 122 units, Green Jay Apartments with 120 units and Hibiscus Village Apartments with 96 units. During their time serving, they facilitated the very first Public Housing to Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) conversion in MHC history.
