Coronavirus Response

We at McAllen Housing Authority (MHA) prioritize the health and safety of our communities and want to ensure the well-being of our residents and staff. As the outbreak of COVID-19 continues to impact the State of Texas and the Nation, we are taking extra precautionary measures to limit in-person interactions as recommended by the Center for Disease Control. As such, the following precautions will be implemented immediately and in effect until further notice.

Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Residents & Landlords

  • The McAllen Housing Authority office will remain open during normal office hours. However, the McAllen Housing Authority lobby will be closed to prevent gatherings of groups in close proximity. Residents and the General Public should call 956-686-3951 to reach their caseworker. Additionally, we encourage you to visit our website to contact any of our staff directly via email.   • All in-person appointments for the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program will be cancelled and reformatted:
    • Caseworkers will mail all documents to residents for signature.
    • Residents will then return the documents to MHA using any of the following methods:
      • Mail all documents back to our main office at 2301 Jasmine Avenue.
      • Drop off the documents in person at our collection box located at the front of the building of our main office.
      • Fax the documents to 956-686-3112.
      • Email. Caseworker email address will be provided in resident packet.
  • Suspension of terminations
  • Suspension of voucher issuance for current and new participants.
  • Landlord payments will continue to be processed via ACH Direct Deposit but paper checks may experience delays.

Orchid Place Residents

  • The MHFC office at 2301 Jasmine Avenue will remain open during normal office hours. However, the MHFC lobby will be closed to prevent gatherings of groups in close proximity. Residents and the General Public should call 956-627-3763 for general information. The Orchid Place Property Management office located at 4117 N. 25th Ln. Apt. #1 will be closed.
  • The office will remain open for all lease renewals and new tenants will be by appointment only.
  • All rent payments will be placed in the outside collection box.
  • Receipts will be provided to resident at a later date.
  • Pest Control will be performed only on the exterior of buildings. Services inside the dwelling units will be suspended.
  • Suspension of A/C filter changes by MHFC Staff.
  • Routine work orders will be placed in the outside drop-box and may require additional troubleshooting via telephone call to determine severity.
  • Emergency work orders will follow usual routine.

Public Housing Residents

  • The McAllen Housing Authority office will remain open during normal office hours. However, the McAllen Housing Authority lobby will be closed to prevent gatherings of groups in close proximity. Residents and the General Public should call 956-686-3951 to reach their caseworker.

    • Caseworkers will mail all documents to residents for signature.
    •  Residents will then return the documents to MHA using any of the following methods:
      • Mail all documents back to our main office at 2301 Jasmine Avenue.
      • Drop off the documents in person at our collection box located at the front of the building of our main office.
      • Fax the documents to 956-627-3317.
      • Email. Caseworker email address will be provided in resident packet.
  • Suspension of evictions for non-criminal activity
  • Suspension of late fees
  • Suspension of recreational resident service activities.
