Emergency Housing Voucher Program

The McAllen Housing Authority (MHA) was issued 54 Emergency Housing Vouchers by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in July of 2021.

MHA is accepting direct referrals from the Texas Homeless Network and Hidalgo County Urban County Program Continuum of Care (CoC) for EHV eligible populations listed below. If an individual or family believed they may be eligible for EHV assistance they may contact the McAllen Housing Authority (MHA) at 956-686-3951 or via email at dgranados@mcaha.org. MHA will then refer applicants to the CoC and accept applicants based on the CoC eligibility rating.

EHV Eligible Population

In order to be eligible for an EHV, an individual or family must meet one of four eligibility categories:

  1. Homeless
  2. At risk of homelessness
  3. Fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking
  4. Recently homeless and for whom providing rental assistance will prevent the family's homelessness or having high risk of housing instability.

In accordance with HUD guidelines, the MHA is not accepting applications directly for the EHV program and will not be selecting participants off of its current waiting list. MHA's regular HCV waiting list does remain available at www.mcallenha.org. The next HCV waiting list application intake will occur on December 9, 2021.
